Swiss fragrance producer Givaudan expands into the pet market

The Geneva-based multinational is investing in flavoring solutions for cat and dog food.

Givaudan, a global leader in the manufacturing of flavors, fragrances and active cosmetic ingredients, has set its sights on the pet care market as part of its expansion strategy.

The company plans to invest 8% of its revenue over the next 5 years in advancing technologies in flavoring solutions and active ingredients, including dog and cat food products, cosmetics and food. For the first 9 months of 2025, it reported CHF 5.7 billion ($7.2B/€6.2B) in net sales.

Stan Wrobel, Global Head of Pet Food, Taste & Wellbeing at Givaudan, tells GlobalPETS that the pet industry’s fast growth and humanization trend are reshaping demand.

“Flavors that not only please the pet parent when preparing foods, but also increase the liking of foods by the cat and dog can be very powerful in building the bond between the pet and human during the meal experience,” he says.

According to the company, Givaudan is ranked among the 30 largest companies listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange by market capitalization.

Global reach

Givaudan has dedicated technical and regulatory teams to support the company’s expansion into the pet care market.

GlobalPETS learned that the company is also preparing technologies for the production of its upcoming pet food portfolio. “We expect additional brands to be introduced in the future,” highlights Wrobel.

The pet business will initially focus on Europe and North America, with plans to expand into other regions around the world.

As a leading player in the Taste & Wellbeing and Fragrance & Beauty sectors, which are the company’s two core business areas, Givaudan offers global reach through its 163 locations across 52 countries.

Givaudan currently operates 87 production sites, of which 31 are located in Europe, 22 in North America, 17 in Latin America, 8 in Asia-Pacific, and 1 across South Asia, the Middle East and Africa combined.
