The Portuguese pet care market is showing growth, with an estimated €612.2 million ($667.2M) spent in 2023, a slight increase from 2021. Most spending (76%) is focused on pet food, with pet care and supplies accounting for 23.5%.

Despite challenges like high VAT rates and sustainability concerns, local producers are tapping into the demand for high-quality, natural pet foods.

A recent survey shows that 74% of Portuguese consumers prioritize quality when choosing pet food. Additionally, according to Statista, the pet food market is expected to generate €370 million ($380 million) in revenue by 2025, with a modest 2.53% CAGR from 2025 to 2029.
