An additional $25,000 will be awarded to one of the finalists during a final pitch competition in March.

Pet care startups Artie (Arizona), EpiPaws (Florida), Happy Bond (California), PDX Biotech (Alabama), and Sylvester.ai (Alberta, Canada) were shortlisted out of almost 140 entrepreneurs to receive $25,000 (€22,700) each and mentorship from Purina’s Pet Care Innovation team.

The selected companies represent some of the latest technology in the $123 billion (€111.8B) pet care industry, the company said.

The 5 startups will also participate in a pitch competition in March at Global Pet Expo in Orlando, where they will present their business to investors.

Nestlé Purina has been hosting this competition for the past 7 years, and it is said to have invested “millions of dollars” across a diverse group of young pet care businesses since it was established.
