Poland

The largest Polish pet food manufacturers are stepping up business. New plants, developments in product ranges and research activities are all examples of their search for gaining a competitive edge. A few shining examples of this development are outlined below.

Innovation through research

Pupil Foods is in the process of finishing construction of a new dry food plant in Odolanów, which will allow the company to adjust production capacity to market needs. The opening is planned for August of this year. Currently, Pupil Foods Group has six plants where both food and vital ingredients for its products are manufactured. And they have no intention of stopping there.

Justyna Guzielak, Sales and Marketing Director:
“We regularly modernise all of our wet food plants, as well as our super premium pet food manufacturing technology. We are conducting research, specifically with a view to developing this category. The details are confidential, but the research is related to organism immunity which, due to its level, required the participation of a proper scientific team.”

Premium foods

Tropical has announced the development of premium foods. The company has been very open about the fact that more and more production demands, related to the increase in sales, have forced it to make investments, including expanding the equipment range and the warehouse space. New products in the dog and cat food segment will be introduced shortly.

“New TropiDog premium food package capacities were introduced at the beginning of the year,” says Izabela Janik, Marketing Manager at Tropical Tadeusz Ogrodnik. “Currently, this range offers only products for adult dogs of various breeds, but our goal is to create a complete portfolio of products
in the premium and super premium category,
which will fully meet consumers’ needs.”

Investment in production capacity

At the end of March 2015, Wisegate, owner of the Doctor Dog brand, launched its own production line. Before that, the company hired premises where they used to manufacture pet food.

“This investment is supposed to ensure production capacity, which will enable us to successfully deal with increasing orders. On the other hand, it will also allow us to produce new foods. We have been working on the expansion of our portfolio for a long time and have reached the home stretch. Innovations under the Doctor Dog brand will be marketed in two to three months,” says Milena Wysocka, Wisegate’s Product Development Specialist.

Diversification on the food market

Many Polish pet food manufacturers are represented by meat processing plants which, taking advantage of their access to raw materials, are looking to gain advantage from diversification on the food market.

Łmeat-Łuków, owner of the Dolina Noteci brand, the third biggest national manufacturer of wet food products in Poland, has recently extended its pet food production plant in Polanowo.

Piotr Czaplicki, Sales and Marketing Director at Dolina Noteci: “This expansion will enable us to significantly raise our innovation level. We want to be the best pet food manufacturer in Europe and will continue to pursue this goal.”
