UAE: The Petshop expands with new acquisition

The Dubai-based retailer is setting the stage for regional expansion by adding competitor PetHaus to its portfolio.
The Petshop’s aim in acquiring pet retailer PetHaus is to consolidate the UAE’s fragmented pet care market, expand its retail presence and enhance its range of services.
“PetHaus’s established presence in key Dubai locations, its complementary services like cat boarding and its loyal customer base made it a natural fit for The Petshop’s growth ambitions,” The Petshop’s CEO Amr Hazem tells GlobalPETS. “This move also reflects our commitment to investing in high-potential businesses that align with our standards of quality and care.”
Following its acquisition, the retailer will operate under its existing brand as part of The Petshop Group alongside its current brands, Petsville, Lucky Vet and PetHQ.
Independence and visibility
Hazem says that this structure allows the group to retain the retailer’s unique identity and community ties while leveraging The Petshop’s operational and strategic strengths.
“While PetHaus continues to run independently within The Petshop Group, the acquisition creates valuable strategic alignment across both brands,” he notes.
“From a customer standpoint, the biggest synergy is access. PetHaus customers will gradually benefit from The Petshop Group’s broader product ecosystem, including exclusive global brands, curated services and future promotions.”
In addition, the company’s retail footprint in key Dubai locations will provide The Petshop with stronger visibility and a broader customer reach.
“While operational structures remain distinct, both teams can share best practices over time, especially around retail, customer service and service innovation, helping raise the bar across the entire group,” adds Hazem.
Company background
Founded in 2011, The Petshop offers over 12,000 products online and across its 5 stores in Dubai Investment Park (Mega Store), Al Reem Island, Al Wasl Road, Al Forsan in Abu Dhabi and RAK Animal Welfare Center in Ras al Khaimah.
Founded in 2020, PetHaus began as an e-commerce platform before expanding into brick-and-mortar stores on Sheikh Zayed Road and at Cityland Mall. Alongside retail operations, the company provides cat boarding services.
“We are continuously exploring strategic opportunities to grow and strengthen our portfolio. As the regional pet care market continues to evolve, further acquisitions and partnerships remain a strong possibility, particularly those that help us scale faster, enhance our service ecosystem and better serve pet parents across the region,” Hazem concludes.
