United Petfood eyes Turkish market with investment in Lider Pet Food
The Belgian private-label producer hopes to use joint expertise to strengthen its operations.
Izmir-based Lider Pet Food caught the attention of United Petfood which plans to acquire a stake in the company that exports to more than 65 countries and has a production capacity of 220,000 tons.
United Petfood said in a statement that the collaboration objective is to “exchange knowledge and grow together.” The Turkish company will continue to be fully self-managed.
Lider Pet Food sees the investment as a “perfect strategic and cultural fit” for both companies. It has 2 production facilities in Turkey and produces dry pet food for dogs and cats and feed for birds, rabbits, and rodents.
The firm also produces wet pet food and treats for several of its brands, including Reflex, Bonnie, Enjoy, Proline, and Thunder.
The Ghent-based manufacturer’s investment follows other strategic decisions made in 2022. Towards the end of the year, it purchased 2 production facilities of American corporation Cargill in Krzepice (Poland) and Karcag (Hungary).
The company also acquired British private-label pet food firm Gold Line Feeds’ brands and customer base in the UK in October 2022.
