United Petfood to acquire first pet food factory in the Nordics

Belgian private-label pet food manufacturer United Petfood has signed an agreement to acquire Vital Petfood Group’s (VPG) facility in Ølgod, 300 km west of Denmark’s capital Copenhagen.  

The takeover is part of the manufacturer’s planned growth strategy. The company hopes to add more flexibility to its network of production sites and bring production closer to Nordic customers. 

Nordic Pet Care Group—the owner of VPG—is confident that the company will benefit from United Petfood’s European customer footprint and its experience operating multiple pet food production sites. 

“We expect United Petfood to be able to utilize VPG’s strong position in the Nordics, and the Danish market, in particular,” comments CEO Mika Holappa. 

The Danish Competition and Consumer Authority still needs to approve the acquisition, which should be finalized within 8 weeks. This is the manufacturer’s first acquisition of a plant in the Nordics.
