Walmart enters the pet healthcare space
The multinational retailer is open to expanding its footprint in the industry.
Walmart recently signed a deal with Pawp, a pet telehealth provider, to offer telemedicine services to Walmart+ members. This will allow members to benefit from video and text veterinary services via Pawp for a year.
Pawp’s annual membership starts at $99 (€92), while Walmart+ costs $98 (€91), or $12.95 (€12) per month.
According to Crunchbase, the all-in-one vet care platform has raised $27.5 million (€25.7M) in funding since its inception 3 years ago.
GlobalPETS learned that Walmart is open to expanding its offering in the category. A company spokesperson states: “We are always looking for new ways to best serve our members and are evaluating any future pet care offers or benefits.”
Other US retailers like Chewy’s Connect recently expanded their vet telehealth services. Petco invested in pet health care to fuel future growth, and in 2020, UK’s Pets at Home acquired The Vet Connection to offer telemedicine services.
