Westfleisch acquires The Petfood Company
Germany’s second-largest meat marketer has bought the pet food manufacturer’s entire business as of 1 February.
Founded in 2022 and based in Bocholt, North Rhine-Westphalia, The Petfood Company had to file for insolvency at the end of last year, which ultimately led to its acquisition.
Westfleisch has been active in producing dry pet chew products through its subsidiary DOG’s NATURE for a number of years. Through this acquisition, which took place for an undisclosed sum, it intends to expand into wet pet food.
A strategic decision
“In view of the strong demand from our retail partners, we see high growth potential for The Petfood Company’s premium products. We want to exploit this together,” says Wilhelm Uffelmann, CEO at Westfleisch.
COO Johannes Steinhoff believes that The Petfood Company is “well-positioned” in the wet food sector with a “state-of-the-art” production facility.
“With our raw materials, our experience and our network, as well as the targeted leveraging of synergies, we will expand production in Bocholt, develop the production facility sustainably and secure around 60 jobs for the future,” Steinhoff notes.
Established in 1928 and based in Münster, Westfleisch operates in 10 locations across north-west Germany. In March 2023, the meat products manufacturer reported that it had returned to profitability in 2022 after carrying out an “extensive efficiency program” after suffering a loss the previous year.
