FoodScience Corp.

FoodScience’ mission is to provide exceptional and innovative supplements that support optimal health in people and their companion animals.

Leader of innovation

FoodScience Corporation (FSC) was formed in 1972 by Guido Orlandi and his wife Maria, and is currently led by President, Dom Orlandi, and CEO, Bob Shipley.

Their dedication to quality ingredients, forward-thinking formulation, collaborative research on human and animal products and their offering of both branded and private label opportunities are the reasons FSC continues to be a leader of innovation within the nutraceutical industry.

Unique provider

FSC is one of the first pet supplement companies in the US with over four decades of experience. They manufacture and market both human and animal condition specific supplements and offer different branded product lines to both healthcare professional and retail channels. FSC offers the same quality and service for private label products as well, and at low minimums with quick turn-around. The company’s extensive research has resulted in numerous patents, and they continue to provide extensive nutritional research and product development for retailers around the world.

Research

A high level of innovation and evidence-based science continue to form the strong foundation of FSC’s product development process. Research and development team members work closely with the company’s Scientific Review Boards to help ensure these values lead the careful creation of every one of their formulas.

New developments

Over the past few years, FSC has perfected a highly palatable proprietary soft chew delivery system for functional animal health products, has been granted EU approval, updated its internal software framework for an improved customer experience as well as expanding its executive team to facilitate the expansion and growth into the global markets.

The CEO, Bob Shipley, joined FSC in the summer of 2014 and has brought with him decades of experience in the consumer good industry. His vision for growth and insight into the market have positioned FSC to remain at the forefront of innovation while expanding deeper into various pet markets.

Underlying consumer insight

The humanization of pets around the globe has been stimulating growth in the pet care category especially related to premium pet diets, healthcare and nutrition. At the same time, the nutrition industry has experienced unprecedented growth in the past five years, which serves as a driving force for consumers to provide the same nutritional support to their pets.

The longevity of pets is increasing, resulting in more chronic illness and specific condition treatments. This in turn is triggering supplement and Rx sales to support these conditions. In the United States the soft chews have become the most common form of supplement in the vet channel and is growing rapidly in the retail channels. Several new Rx products have been launched in soft chew form.

Business opportunity

Limited soft chew manufacturing capability exists in most countries. At the same time it is difficult to import soft chews into the EU due to the regulation and import process from the US. These conditions create an opportunity to build a soft chew business in the EU and other countries. Assuming that the EU is 60% of the United States revenue, then the market for soft chew supplements is over $100 million (€92 million) in factory revenue for dog and cat products. The Rx opportunity is even greater in terms of factory sales.

Export

As an FDA registered facility, FSC has passed audits by the FDA, NPA and NASC to meet the demands of consumers concerned about quality and label claims. Uniquely, they have recently been authorized by the USDA to export their products to the EU. Further expansion into the Canadian market is logical due to its proximity. However, from a growth standpoint the EU is a valuable market with its economy expected to gain further momentum in 2016 and having what is widely considered one of the richest middle classes globally.

With over four decades of experience, FoodScience Corporation offers the most innovative ingredients and formulations as well as branded and private label capabilities to meet the growing demand in the natural pet health segment.
