The company notified shoppers about the “excessive” price hike adopted by Royal Canin on its platform, stating that it doesn’t wish to pass on the high costs to pet parents.
Zooplus noted that it will face “difficulty” in obtaining the full range of products from the Mars subsidiary and is expected to “experience higher out-of-stock” on the brand.
The German retailer declined to give an official statement. However, Royal Canin told GlobalPETS that the production of its formulas requires raw materials that are “greatly affected by rising costs” as well as inflation in packaging, transportation, and energy.
The pet food producer said it is “absorbing these rising costs as much as possible” as it prioritizes providing cats and dogs with “high-quality, precision-engineered food.” It added that it wouldn’t compromise on the quality of its nutritional solutions.
In July 2022, British supermarket Tesco shot back at Whiskas and Pedigree after rejecting the “unjustifiable” price increase.
