Söll | Germany

For more than twenty years, Söll has been one of the leading suppliers of chemical, microbiological and technical products for water treatment of ponds, aquariums, pools and fountains in Germany.

Foundation of a success story

The company’s mission is to conduct scientific research and produce products that ensure the health and long-term sustainability of aquatic ecosystems, such as ponds, aquariums, pools and fountains.

Söll’s history began in 1994 when chemist and current CEO Thomas Willuweit founded the company. Following the success of CarbonAdd, his first invention, he launched a variety of other products. Söll has since grown into a full-range garden and koi pond provider.

Provider in water treament

Söll had simultaneously developed various water treatment solutions for fish tanks, small pools, and indoor and outdoor fountains. As Thomas Willuweit puts it: “No matter for which segment we are producing, we always pay close attention to keeping our products as ecologically-friendly as possible.” Numerous products therefore only contain ingredients that are naturally found in water, thus stimulating nature’s self-purification processes.

Outstanding fish food

Right from the beginning, the company’s mission statement for fish food was made clear: Neither fish meal nor oil or vegetable additives should be included in the composition. Söll’s ornamental fish food Organix is entirely made of fresh ingredients originating from Alaska’s wild sea. Only seafood from sustainable fisheries that meet the standards of the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) is present in Söll products, which is indicated by a blue ecolabel.

“Choosing MSC products helps ensure the preservation of fish and it gives retailers a strong USP for our food,” explains Sales Director Karin Willuweit.

Made in Germany

Söll employs about 80 highly qualified people, among them chemists, biologists and a large sales staff. At the headquarters in Hof, Bavaria, all chemical and microbiological products are made. This is also the location of Söll’s laboratory and R&D department. Throughout Söll’s history, the company has obtained more than 100 patents, pending and active. The company works according to the internationally accepted quality and environmental standards DIN EN ISO 9001:2008 and 14001:2009.

Focus on internationalisation

“We focus our activities on solving problems involving water treatment, which are generally the same all over the world, whether these water bodies are small, big, artificial or natural,” says CEO Thomas Willuweit. “Therefore, we are currently looking for retail partners outside of Germany as we intend to spread our brand globally.” Initially, the main target markets will be Western Europe and the United States.
