6 out of 10 European pet parents do not plan to cut budget

A Samsung research reveals that close to two-thirds of owners in the region consider their pets family.

Almost 60% of surveyed respondents disclosed that they do not intend to cut back on overall expenses for their pets, and 61% stated they would make “other sacrifices” first.

The study states that pet parents would rather sacrifice socializing (40%) and necessities such as utilities (27%).

It also suggests that nearly two-thirds (63%) regard their pets as beloved family members. “Like parents with their children, it’s unsurprising that pets have become influential in shaping home life and buying decisions,” the company said.

Pet-focused tech

Almost half of the respondents (47%) acknowledged adjusting their home setup to accommodate pets. One-third (32%) admitted that being a pet parent affected their decision-making when getting a new home appliance, and 30% said it influenced their choice when purchasing personal technology devices.

More than half of European pet owners believe technology can help enhance their pets’ well-being by keeping them active (56%), improving their health (52%), and reducing separation anxiety (52%).

From cleaning to feeding

The research also revealed that “tech-savvy owners” want to use technology by acquiring vacuum cleaners to clean up after their pets (53%), automated feeders to feed them (49%), and location trackers to detect their whereabouts (48%).

Owners who use technology believe it keeps their pets safe (26%), while others use it for peace of mind and added convenience.

Nearly half (49%) of pet parents want to see the development of new high-tech devices for pets and 6 out of 10 respondents agree that it’s just as crucial as child-friendly technology.

The South Korean electronics company carried out the survey to 6,500 European pet owners.
