Acquisition of Empresas Iansa’s pet food business is cancelled

Brazilian Camil Alimentos and the Chilean pet food manufacturer agreed to extinguish the contract to take over the company.
Back in 2020, Camil announced the purchase of the pet food business of Empresas Iansa for a R$ 200 million ($42.9M / €39.8M) marking the Brazilian company’s entry into the segment.
The pet food business unit of Empresas Iansa has a portfolio of pet food brands in the Chilean market and is the third-largest in the country, Camil said in a statement at the time.
“Due to changes in the commercial conditions and structures of both companies, the parties agreed not to persevere in the transaction,” reads a statement from LDA, Iansas’s subsidiary in charge of the pet food portfolio.
According to some Brazilian media, LDA lost “almost all” of its market share in Chile – in 2020 it owned around 10% – because one of its products caused intestinal problems in pets.
A spokesperson for the Chilean company told GlobalPETS that its dog food portfolio has a current market share of 5% and they are among the 5 best-selling brands in Chile for the mainstream segment.
