Alpha Paw raises million to expand

The pet wellness company that started with the development of pet ramps for dogs that have trouble jumping up or down from sofas is ready for the next step.

CEO Ramon van Meer acquired the company in 2018 and has bootstrapped the business ever since.

“We have a vision of helping pets lead healthier and longer lives,” van Meer told TechCrunch. “We wanted to create wellness products, similar to our human lifestyles, and to keep healthy, it is about nutrition and supplements.”

The company now offers different types of products: food, supplements, the ramps it originally produced, and much more. The products are often customized with the pet breed in mind.

Last year, the company did $20 million in revenue and is on track to pull in $35 million this year. For every product purchased, Alpha Paw donates meals to shelter dogs across the country. So far, it has donated over 500,000 meals in total.

The investment round will help the business grow, expand its product line and grow internationally.
