Analysis of pet owner purchasing patterns

Analysis of pet owner purchasing patterns

Pattern’s data science team analyzed market demand for pet supplies on Amazon for 2020 for the US market. Here’s what they found:

Pet toys

As soon as we went into lockdown, demand for pet toys increased. It stayed fairly constant for the rest of the year, with a high demand surge towards the holiday season.

After the holidays, pet toy demand in January and February of 2021 was ahead of last year, possibly in line with the fact that more people got a pet during quarantine?

Pet food

Unsurprisingly, as soon as COVID-19 hit, with lockdowns and empty store shelves, consumer demand for pet food skyrocketed. By the end of April, however, demand had fallen back slightly under pre-pandemic levels.

Pet clothes

Demand for pet clothes increased tremendously in the weeks of September 27th until October 25th. Halloween costumes were truly popular, raking in increases of 370% during that period.

Conclusion

Pet supplies are popular year-round, but their data shows that different types of pet supplies hit their peak in demand at different times of the year than others.
