Animal lovers in Spain spend BIG on pets
Pet owners in Spain spent €1.2 billion on their animals last year, making the country the fifth largest consumer within this market in Europe.
Of this figure, €1.013.282 million was generated by the sale of food for dogs and cats, a growth of 2.56 per cent, according to the national association of pet food manufacturers, Anfaac.
The online sale of these products grew by 25 per cent and now accounts for around six per cent of sales.
This means of purchase reportedly gained popularity among consumers during the crisis, as it offers lower prices and the added value of home delivery.
