Colombia: Rice producer Grupo Diana moves into pet segment with new acquisition

The Bogota-based corporation is now the owner of the sixth biggest pet food manufacturer in the Latin American country.

Grupo Diana acquired the pet food producer Alimentos Nutrión, marking its entry into the Latin American pet market.

Andrés Murra, the CEO, confirmed the acquisition to GlobalPETS. “A percentage of the company was acquired and we began operating it strategically together with the former owners,” he says.

According to Jaime Murra, President of Grupo Diana, the purchase aligns with the company’s strategy to diversify its food portfolio.

Nutrión specializes in cat and dog food and snacks, offering products for adult and senior dogs. It has been producing pet food in Bogotá for over 31 years.

Company background

One of the biggest rice producers in Colombia, Grupo Diana was founded in 1964 with a sole focus on the grain, but it gradually expanded into other segments. Its portfolio now includes grains, oils, margarines, flours and sauces, among other basic household products.

Beyond the food sector, Grupo Diana also has businesses in beverages, agricultural inputs, and cargo transportation, in addition to providing its logistics capital as a service to other companies.

A study published by the Colombian government’s Superintendence of Companies in June ranked the corporation as the country’s 61st-largest company and 10th-largest manufacturing company.

The agency also reported that the group’s operating revenues totaled COL$2.5 trillion ($621.8M/€533.4M) in 2024, a 3.8% drop from COL$2.6 trillion ($646.8M/€554.6M) in 2023.
