Franchise ranking names 8 pet firms as top US companies

The Entrepreneur Magazine’s 2022 Franchise 500 list considers Pet Supplies Plus as the company leader in the pet category for the eight-consecutive year.
The independent per retailer is ranked No. 20 out of 500 in a decisive moment for the Michigan company, which recently announced it signed 118 new store agreements to date.
“The love for pets will continue to drive the need for a neighborhood pet store, full of quality products and well-versed team members who are ready to assist,” said CEO Chris Rowland.
Dog daycare provider Dogtopia has been ranked No. 51, followed by pet shop chain Petland (146).
“Our consistent ranking in the Franchise 500 is a huge testament to the value and relevance of our business model, our hardworking and conscientious franchisees, and the success of our company store division and operating systems,” said Petland VP Steve Huggins.
Bird food supplier Wild Birds Unlimited (188) and pet care company Camp Bow Wow (271) have also been included in the ranking.
The ranking evaluates the size & growth of the company, costs & fees, support, brand strength and financial strength & stability and scores each eligible franchisor on more than 150 data points.
