French insect provider expands footprint in US pet food market
Paris-based Ÿnsect incorporates into its portfolio the products from Jord Producers, a mealworm producer for birds and chickens.
The insect farming startup aims to transform Buffalo and Molitor mealworms into “premium, high-value, sustainable ingredients” to feed animals, fish, plants and humans.
In a press release, the company said that the number of Americans rearing chickens has increased to around 26 million in the past 2 years.
“Mealworms like those produced at Jord offer significant benefits to livestock and pets alike as they contain all the amino acids a chicken needs for optimal development,” it said.
Back in November, Ÿnsect partnered with Seattle-based pet food start-up Pure Simple to put in the US market ultra-premium and luxury food brand for dogs.
Since 2011, Ÿnsect raised more than $500 million (€453M) and exports its products worldwide.
