Fressnapf | Maxi Zoo tops €900 million in Q2 revenue

The European pet retailer added 53 stores alongside increases in like-for-like sales and profitability.
Fressnapf | Maxi Zoo posted €930 million ($1.1B) in revenue in the second quarter of 2026, a 7.1% increase compared to the same period in 2025.
The Krefeld-based pet retailer group attributes the performance to a 3% increase in like-for-like revenue between April and June. This follows the trajectory established earlier this year, when it delivered 6.6% sales growth in the first quarter of 2026.
According to the company, this increase was driven by the introduction of specific value propositions across its markets. These initiatives included targeted pricing strategies and customer offerings intended to drive store volumes.
“Our robust sales growth in an increasingly challenging environment demonstrates that our strategic measures are taking effect. Alongside the consistent continuation of our expansion, the positive development of our like-for-like sales is particularly encouraging,” says CFO Florian Wieser.
The total revenue for the first half of 2026 reached €1.9 billion ($2.2B), up 6.9% year-on-year, alongside continued optimization of its online retail model.
Profitability
The group’s adjusted EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) rose by 9.3% year-on-year to reach €158 million ($185M).
The company stated that this increase in profitability reflects its recent business performance and the application of disciplined cost management.
This focus on operational expenditure aligns with the structural adjustments Fressnapf | Maxi Zoo implemented in 2025.
Store expansion
Fressnapf | Maxi Zoo opened 53 new stores in the second quarter of 2026, mainly in France, Italy and Poland. The total store count now stands at 2,964.
“This demonstrates the scalability of the store formats and the appeal of the Group’s omnichannel approach,” it says.
Germany saw store performance grow more than three times faster than the national market, while Arcaplanet in Italy more than doubled market growth. In France, Maxi Zoo achieved an even stronger performance, growing more than seven times the market rate.
The company said that new store openings, maturing locations, online expansion and enhanced value propositions were key growth drivers across its markets.
Future expansion efforts will continue to target markets such as France, Italy and Poland.
