Inflation snapshot: Pet supplies and services rose in Europe and the US in November

Veterinary costs climb in both markets, in contrast to slight drops in Canada and Brazil.
The costs associated with owning, caring for and feeding a pet varied around the world in November. While Canada, the United Kingdom and Brazil saw cheaper products and supplies, vet and health services, European prices slightly increased.
According to the World Bank, many economies are benefiting from easing inflation, both in the Eurozone and in Emerging Markets and Developing Economies (EMDEs), which, together with declining interest rates, can boost national growth.
However, the institution highlights that general inflation is “still above targets” in some countries and expresses particular concern about US inflation, which remains “persistent despite labor market weakness.”

UK
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) figures for November 2025 show that the price of veterinary and other services increased 0.2%. Prices for pet products, on the other hand, fell by 0.48%.
The country’s overall index also decreased 0.2% that month. According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), food and non-alcoholic beverages and alcohol and tobacco made the largest downward contributions.
In 12 months, prices of veterinary and other services jumped 5.6%, while pet products saw a smaller annual increase of 1%.
Canada
The November CPI for pet food and supplies fell slightly from October, by 0.05%. In relation to November 2024, prices were down 1.85%.
The deflation goes against the overall result of the index, which showed a seasonally adjusted increase of 0.2% month-over-month (MoM) and of 2.2% YoY.
According to Statistics Canada, services figures rose at a slower pace in November, as “slower growth for rent prices put downward pressure on the all-items CPI.” Goods, on the other hand, saw a larger overall increase.
US
After one month without releasing the CPI for pet products due to a government shutdown, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported a 0.3% YoY increase in the category across food and treats and supplies and accessories.
The BLS also measures figures for pet and veterinary services, which saw a much higher annual increase. Pet services have risen 4.2% since November 2024, while vet prices grew 5.4%.
The US didn’t release a monthly trajectory because the BLS “was unable to collect data” for October 2025 retroactively. However, for a few indices, the institution stated that it uses non-survey data to calculate the index.
The general CPI index increased 2.7% before seasonal adjustment over the last 12 months.
Europe
The Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) for November 2025, covering pets, pet products, services and veterinary care, recorded a month-on-month increase of 0.05% for the European Union (EU). In October, the monthly increase was 0.03% compared to September.
In the overall index, the EU reported a monthly increase of 0.2%, led by Denmark and the Netherlands with 0.6%.
The Eurostat analyzed that costs were pressured by services, which recorded the highest annual rate in November 2025, and food, alcohol and tobacco. Energy prices – which can affect many businesses – also rose after 4 negative interest rates.
Furthermore, the annual inflation rate was higher than in the previous month in “1 of the 5 largest EU economies for which data are available,” Eurostat says. However, according to the institution, “economic sentiment strengthened, and employment expectations increased” in the month despite CPI numbers.
Brazil
In Brazil, the largest monthly price rise in November was recorded in animal treatment at 0.96%, more than double from October’s 0.43% increase.
Hygiene services rose 0.23% over the period, while pet food prices fell 0.52%. The general inflation index increased 0.18%.
In 12 months, food prices decreased by 5.09%. Animal treatment and hygiene services registered similar increases of 4.56% and 5.70%, respectively. The general national index rose 4.46% during the period.
