J.M. Smucker global sales remain flat in last quarter

The company’s pet food portfolio posted revenue of $729 million, 13% more than last year.

The Ohio-based manufacturer posted revenue of $1.8 billion (+1%) in the 3 months ending July 31, 2022. Gross profit decreased by $86.9 million, or 14%.

“We delivered another quarter that exceeded our expectations, as consumers’ demand for our iconic brands continued in a rising cost environment, driving robust organic top-line growth for our key focus platforms of pet, coffee, and snacking,” claimed President and Chief Executive Officer Mark Smucker.

The gross profit of the pet category reached $120.3 million in the last quarter. In the same period for last year it accounted for $79.9 million.

According to the company, this increase was due a favorable net impact of higher net price realization and increased commodity and ingredient, packaging, and manufacturing costs.

Optimistic outlook

Despite the ongoing cost inflation and volatility in supply chains, J.M. Smucker expects an increase in net sales of 4% to 5% compared to the prior year.

This reflects higher net pricing to recover cost inflation across multiple categories, partially offset by the anticipated volume/mix impact of price elasticity of demand,” the company stated.
