Kormotech begins distribution in Qatar and Nigeria

The Ukrainian pet food manufacturer now offers its product portfolio in 46 countries.
Lviv-based Kormotech’s international expansion continues. The company announced it will supply cat food in Qatar and a broader range of products for cats and dogs in Nigeria.
Since 2019, Kormotech has focused on expanding its presence in the Middle East and Africa. It now offers products in countries across the region, including Turkey, Morocco and Saudi Arabia.
The company has grown via international expansions since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, threatening to disrupt domestic operations. Now, with an eye toward the south, Kormotech is tapping into a growing market of pet owners.
Demand by country
Pet ownership is rising in Africa and the Middle East, and pet industries are poised to benefit. According to Grand View Research, the pet services market in the region is set to hit a compound annual growth rate of 10%.
However, there are limiting factors to growth in the region. Dog ownership can be less common in some predominantly Muslim countries, where certain interpretations of Islam discourage keeping dogs as pets. Therefore, cats drive the industry across much of the Middle East and North Africa.
Cat-heavy product demand is likely a factor in Kormotech’s decision to sell only cat products in Qatar. “Demand is more diverse in Nigeria,” the company says.
According to TGM research, 57% of Nigerian survey respondents had a pet in 2024, with dogs being more popular than cats.
Strategy
Kormotech aims to become a top 30 pet food producer by 2028. Its recent press release states that it wants to reach this goal by generating 70% of its sales from global markets and 30% from Ukraine.
“This growth will be driven by simultaneous expansion across all markets rather than reallocating resources,” they state.
