New warehouse and 24/7 self-service expansion: Plaček’s strategy
GlobalPETS analyzes the latest developments in the Czech pet retail group.
Plaček-owned Super Zoo first opened its concept store in late 2022 in Týn nad Vltavou, 150 km from Prague. When it opened, the store had the capacity to stock 4,000 pet food items and supplies.
After positive customer feedback, the company expanded the service to 3 new stores in Pardubice, Brno and Příbram.
“Our goal is to be as close to our customers as possible, and with this business model, we try to accommodate all pet owners who, for example, due to their work, do not keep standard hours,” a company spokesperson tells GlobalPETS.

Over the last Christmas and New Year season, Plaček registered a “significant increase” in purchases outside regular business hours—up 2.5 times on average.
The company plans to expand this model further after evaluating the available data.
In the second half of 2024, Plaček Group plans to launch a new, more modern form of e-shops within the Czech, Slovak and Latvian markets, with enhanced features such as “significantly faster” website loading, expanded shipping options and an interactive assistant to help customers with product selection.
New warehouse opening
Plaček also recently announced its new warehouse in Poděbrady, 60 km east of Prague. It is spread out over 10,000 square meters and provides 15,000 new pallet spaces.
The company says that the new warehouse, equipped with modern technology to improve operations, is a “prerequisite” to fulfilling its growth ambitions for the future.
With this new plant, Plaček aims to achieve the higher output needed for further growth.
Plaček Group operates nearly 390 Super Zoo stores in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, Dino Zoo in Latvia and Kakadu Zoo in Poland.
