Pet retailers push store expansion into regional markets across Europe and North America

Jollyes, Fressnapf, Tractor Supply and other chains have announced new openings in recent months.

Brick-and-mortar investment remains a key growth strategy for pet retailers across Europe and North America.

Jollyes

British pet retailer Jollyes is continuing to expand its brick-and-mortar network with a series of branch launches across the UK. In May, the company opened 4 locations across the country: Wrexham, Lincoln, Kidderminster in Worcestershire, followed by another in Yeovil, Somerset.

The rollout continued in July with branches in Southport and Derby. Earlier this year, Jollyes also added 4 outlets in Blackpool, Ponders End, Hartlepool and Whitehaven.

The company plans to add 160 sites across the UK over the next 5 years. Target markets include Birmingham, Liverpool, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leicester, Nottingham, Manchester and London. Jollyes is looking for premises between 3,000 and 7,000 square feet, primarily on retail parks and in prominent roadside locations.

Arken Zoo

In Sweden, the pet specialty chain Arken Zoo has opened its northernmost outlet in Kiruna. The addition follows 2 branches in Umeå and Ludvika in May, both situated in prominent shopping areas.

In April, the company also added 3 locations in Mariestad, Västberga and Kållered. Of the latest additions, only Västberga is within Stockholm, while the others are in cities across central, western and northern Sweden, reflecting Arken Zoo’s strategy to broaden its geographic reach.

Owned by the Musti Group, Arken Zoo is Sweden’s largest pet specialty chain. It operates a nationwide network of physical outlets, an e-commerce platform, and provides grooming and veterinary services.

Fressnapf

Fressnapf strengthened its European footprint with branch launches in Vienna, Warsaw and Budapest in June, following an opening in Winterthur, northeastern Switzerland, in April.

The Polish site is Fressnapf’s fourth urban concept store in Europe and the largest in its portfolio. In Hungary, the Budapest branch is the company’s 70th in the country, while the Winterthur outlet is its 80th in Switzerland. Both are located in shopping centers.

According to the German company, further expansions are planned in France and Germany. Fressnapf added 33 locations between January and March 2026, bringing its network to 2,919 outlets. In 2025, it launched 195 stores.

Tractor Supply

As part of its plan to add 100 locations to its retail network this year, US rural lifestyle retailer Tractor Supply opened 10 branches in June. The additions are spread across New York, Louisiana, North Carolina, Mississippi, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina and Tennessee.

In July, the company also launched 2 locations in Florida and Kentucky, with 7 more scheduled for Nevada, Texas, New Jersey, Tennessee, South Carolina and Arkansas. Another 5 branches are planned for August across Louisiana, Florida, Arkansas and Kentucky.

The latest expansion builds on Tractor Supply’s network of more than 2,400 locations in 49 US states as of March 2026.

Woof Gang

North American pet grooming and specialty retail franchise Woof Gang Bakery & Grooming entered 3 new US states in June with openings in Rogers, Arkansas; Edmond, Oklahoma; and Olympus Hills in Millcreek, Utah. The additions expand the company’s footprint to 36 US states and Canada.

The company also added 8 branches in Clayton, California; East Brainerd, Tennessee; Highlands Ranch, Colorado; Montvale, New Jersey; North Stapley, Arizona; St. Pete, Florida; West Islip, New York; and Lake Conroe, Texas.

According to Woof Gang, its geographic growth is being matched by investment in its product portfolio. Earlier this year, the company introduced its largest toy collection to date and launched its first line of hypoallergenic pet wipes, expanding its range of products to more than 450 SKUs.

Zoopark

In Italy, Zoopark reached a new milestone in June with the debut of its 26th branch, shortly after inaugurating its 25th earlier that month.

The Puglia-based company says the latest additions make Zoopark “the largest independent pet retail chain in Italy not owned by large-scale retail groups and not controlled by investment funds.”

The business plans to add 4 more outlets in 2027, bringing its network to 30 stores in the early months of the year. “Over the past years, Zoopark has focused on building a strong network of specialized pet stores, offering pet food, accessories, pet care products and professional customer service, while maintaining a fully independent business model,” the company tells GlobalPETS.

Beyond expanding its physical footprint, Zoopark is also investing in private-label development to grow its portfolio of proprietary brands.

Mondou

Quebec-based pet retailer Mondou opened its 101st location in Lavaltrie in July. The addition follows the company’s 100th store opening in Saint-Joseph-du-Lac in April.

Mondou’s parent company, Legault Group, divested its pet manufacturing business to focus only on retail earlier this year. In addition to expanding the number of stores, this focus also includes increasing the availability of private labels in its pet specialty brands.

Founded in 1938, Mondou offers pet products, services and accessories for dogs, cats, birds, small animals and horses.
