Raw pet food startup raises million

US-based, direct-to-consumer company Maev is looking to take a bite out of the pet care space.

CEO Katie Spies and Christine Busaba launched their first product in 2020.

Today, the company has supplemental vitamin bars and a bone broth topper in its product pipeline.

Working together with nutritionists, the team designed frozen food that’s made of real meats, vegetables and fruits. Maev’s products are ready-to-out out of the freezer. All it needs is thawing.

It’s a subscription product, with costs averaging about $2 per meal. 92% of its customers stick around after their first box.

Over the past year, the company acquired about 2,000 customers and has 16 employees and 11 open jobs. And it has seen growth of 20% month over month.

With the funding, the team wants to push the growth to 25% month-over-month growth. They’ll move headquarters, build brand awareness and hire team members across marketing and supply chain.
