Startup accelerators open new cohorts to finance pet innovation

The latest funding programs prioritize pet health, nutrition, insurance and technology.
From corporate venture funds to accelerator cohorts, the first half of 2026 brought a wave of new opportunities for early-stage pet businesses.
Elanco
American pharmaceutical company Elanco Animal Health announced a dedicated corporate venture capital (CVC) platform to invest in animal health therapies and enabling technologies.
Backed by a $25 million (€21.5M) multi-year commitment, Elanco Ventures will also explore opportunities within the One Health Innovation District, a purpose-built ecosystem focused on advancing animal, human and plant health solutions.
Launching later this year, it will focus on early-stage companies, prioritizing pre-seed, seed and Series A stages of development.
Plug and Play
The seventh cohort of the Cairo accelerator program, run by the African division of Silicon Valley-based venture capital firm Plug and Play, includes Leona Pet Plan, an Egyptian startup providing pet health insurance.
Founded in 2023, the Cairo-based company offers plans covering emergencies, illnesses and preventive wellness care. Leona Pet Plan joins 24 other startups participating in the accelerator, which covers sectors including AI, fintech, healthtech, legaltech and mobility.
The program is supported by the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) and the National Bank of Egypt (NBE).
University of Wisconsin-Green Bay
WagVitals, a pet health monitoring company, has joined the second cohort of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay’s (UWGB) gBeta pre-accelerator program, designed for pre-seed startups.
The company is developing a smart dog collar that continuously monitors heart rate, body temperature and activity levels in real time through a companion mobile app.
According to Alan Peters, UWGB’s Economic Development Director, the program targets early-stage companies with strong growth potential that align with key industries in Northeast Wisconsin.
Operated in partnership with startup accelerator gener8tor, the latest cohort features firms working across sectors including agriculture, food and beverage, supply chain, drone food delivery, digital health and pet technology.
Mars Petcare
Mars Petcare and VC firm Big Idea Ventures have launched the third edition of the Next Generation Pet Food Program in collaboration with AAK, Bühler, Givaudan and Ingredion. The accelerator is seeking startups developing innovative pet food ingredients, particularly alternative proteins, fats, oils and other novel ingredients.
“We’re looking for startups developing new concepts, such as fermentation-based ingredients, algae oils or mycoproteins, as we’re well positioned to help accelerate early-stage concepts still in the validation stage,” Mars Petcare tells GlobalPETS.
“We also want to hear from scale-ups with proven solutions looking to expand into the pet food industry, particularly those from the human food space,” it adds.
Selected companies will receive expert guidance, opportunities for commercial partnerships, $15,000 (€12,900) in funding and the chance to showcase their solutions at the Asia-Pacific Agri-Food Innovation Summit in Singapore.
Leap Venture Studio
Pet care startup accelerator Leap Venture Studio has closed applications for its 10th cohort, seeking companies developing solutions that improve affordable access to pet care, new care delivery models, pet health and well-being, nutrition, and safety, as well as sustainable food systems.
Selected companies will join a 12-week hybrid program offering mentorship, networking opportunities, brand and marketing support, access to industry resources and $200,000 (€172,000) in funding.
The program’s 10th cohort is supported by TAW Ventures, the venture capital firm founded by Jane Lauder of the Estée Lauder Group, the US-based beauty conglomerate. Since its launch in 2018, Leap Venture Studio has invested in 57 companies across 9 cohorts spanning 17 markets.
The initiative is a joint venture between Mars, Banfield Pet Hospital, BluePearl Pet Hospital, VCA Animal Hospitals, and animal welfare organization Michelson Found Animals.
Sustainable Impact Capital
Sustainable Impact Capital’s (SIC) Singapore division has signed an agreement with AngelCentral, an angel investment network in Southeast Asia, to support early-stage startups across the Asia-Pacific region.
Among the companies participating in the program is Fluv, a Taiwan-based pet care marketplace with 200,000 users and 10,000 pet sitters across Taiwan, Japan and Hong Kong. The platform aims to make pet care services more accessible across Asia.
It plans to raise $2 million (€1.72M) in its next funding round to accelerate its expansion in Japan, where it launched 10 months ago. According to the company, the funding will support partnerships to expand its network of pet sitters, marketing initiatives and key hires for operations and product development.
