Sustainable protein firm enters European pet food market
Californian-based Calysta has recently appointed a new VP to “target opportunities” in the sector.
GlobalPETS learned that the company has received approval from the European authorities to use its sustainable protein solution for new pet food formulas and will soon bring a new product for dogs and cats to the market.
“Our protein requires no arable land, uses no plant or animal matter in its production and uses very little water, supporting global food security”, claimed a spokesperson.
In addition, the company is also in discussions with a number of potential partners “who are keen to explore building further fermenters in more locations around the world.”
Key new appointment
This development comes after Calysta recently appointed Herman Sloot as its new VP of Commercial Development. Sloot is based in Germany and will be responsible for placing the new protein onto the European market.
Calysta, considered the world’s largest alternative protein company, is also working on the world’s first industrial-scale facility for FeedKind, a microbial protein for the aquaculture market.
The new facility, located in Chongqing, China will produce 20,000 tons of a new sustainable functional protein that does not use animal or plant ingredients.
