UK consumers pay 6% more for pet products than last year

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said that there was a “small upward contribution” of pet food in this inflationary trend.
The cost of pet products increased by nearly 3% from February to April, according to the UK’s Consumer Prices Index (CPIH).
The start of the war in Ukraine has also intensified the inflation in the category. Both in February and March, pet products were 6.1% more expensive each month compared to 2021.
In April, the cost of pet products and services increased by 6.3% on a year basis.
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) recently added pet collars as one of the shopping items to calculate the price inflation. The indices compile around 180,000 separate price quotations collected every month in around 140 locations in the UK, covering around 730 representative consumer goods and services.
