US producer patents its balanced and healthy dog food bars
The United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) has recently granted Guardian Pet Food Company the first patent in the pet industry acknowledging a product as innovative, healthy and natural.
Aside from protecting the intellectual property behind the formulation of NOBL® Canine Food Bars, the company believes that this patent recognizes its approach to animal health based on transparency and honesty.
“The patent validates our innovation efforts and hard work to find a better way to feed dogs, both nutritionally and physically,” said founder and CEO Jim Galovski in an interview with GlobalPETS.
According to Galovski, the patent also gives confidence to consumers that their claims have been vetted and are based on scientific knowledge and not “marketing puffery.”
“The patent serves as our “go-to” standard, not a “one and done” product,” he added.
This is believed to be the first patent granted to dog bars whose claims focus on the balance of nutrition and caloric density for pets.
The bars that provide dogs with at least 5,000 kcal contain no artificial ingredients and provide the vitamins and minerals from fruits and vegetables instead of synthetic pre-mixes.
The patent covers Guardian’s NOBL® Canine Food Bar Beef & Chicken and NOBL® Canine Food Bar Turkey & Duck products.
The bars are made in Canada and sold through independent pet specialty retailers in Canada and the United States. The company has also applied for patents in Canada and Europe and hopes to be granted shortly.
The bars were initially launched in early 2019 under MoRE, which was rebranded in 2020 to NOBL.
GlobalPETS learned that in 2021 the product achieved 385% year-on-year growth and that Guardian Pet Food Company is forecasting similar growth for 2022.
