Zigly targets metro and high-growth Indian cities with new pet care centers

GlobalPETS speaks with the retailer’s CEO about the company’s plan to strengthen customer relationships and drive more frequent visits.

Indian omnichannel pet care platform Zigly Pet Care aims to double revenue and expand to 60 pet care centers by the end of fiscal year (FY) 2026, up from its current 40 locations.

To achieve this bold goal, it is “opening almost 2 centers every month,” Saurabh Jain, Zigly’s new CEO and Cosmo First’s Head of Corporate Development, says in an interview with GlobalPETS.

“We are expanding our footprint across a mix of metro and high-potential growth markets. We will continue to strengthen our presence in the markets we are already present in, along with the remaining cities to be announced in a phased manner as we finalize locations,” adds Jain.

25 locations

The stores will be distributed across 17 cities where Zigly currently operates, as well as 8 other municipalities. The first 5 centers scheduled to open by March will be located in markets with high demand and repeat pet parent engagement.

The Indian retailer plans to implement a city-cluster model, with multiple stores in selected cities, because pet care demand varies significantly across micro-markets.

Zigly expects the newer stores to have a ramp-up curve in terms of profitability, with service revenues helping them break even faster than traditional retail formats.

Vet and grooming

The retailer’s growth strategy is strongly services-led, with veterinary care and grooming “driving higher frequency and stickier customer relationships,” Jain explains.

This approach will be essential to help the brand differentiate in the increasingly competitive pet retail market in India, as “most players remain product-led.”

The company expanded its veterinary infrastructure across multiple cities over the past year, introducing 24-hour inpatient department (IPD) services. It also acquired veterinary hospitals in Mumbai and Bengaluru to enhance its clinical depth and capabilities, particularly in advanced diagnostics and specialized care.

Franchise launch

Zigly’s expansion plan includes entering the franchise business, with its first center recently opening in Lucknow, Northern India.

“We believe franchising makes sense only after a business model is well tested. After operating company-owned centers across diverse markets, we now have standardized operating playbooks, service protocols and tech systems in place,” Jain says.

The company plans to scale the model gradually. According to the CEO, they have received “overwhelming interest” for partnership.

“While we remain selective, we expect to open the next 4-5 franchises over a shorter time frame,” the CEO adds.

Private label and tech

Additionally, Zigly recently launched several private-label product lines, including Applod, FurPro, and Zigly Lifestyle.

Although it has recorded an increase in private-label sales, Jain states to GlobalPETS that it will continue to serve as an aggregator for other brands as well.

The Indian pet player also launched a new mobile app in January to streamline service management and purchases for consumers.

“It will integrate vet appointments, grooming bookings, repeat orders and personalized recommendations in one journey. This will improve retention, increase frequency and allow us to serve customers seamlessly,” Jain adds.

Founded in 2021, Zigly Pet Care is part of the Cosmo First group, a four-decade-old business conglomerate based in New Delhi.
