As pet food brands seek opportunities for differentiation, here is how one private label manufacturer is innovating to deliver the finest fresh ingredients.
Quality, Innovation, Integrity
Premium private label pet food manufacturer, GA Pet Food Partners, has three core values: Quality, Innovation and Integrity. It is these core values that drive the organisation towards innovatively seeking the finest fresh ingredients for their valued partner brands.
GA has invested significantly over the last 20 years in developing its Freshtrusion cooking technology, which enables it to offer recipes to partners that are 100% fresh. Now in its fourth generation, the system has recently added the ability to offer a unique fresh coating and aroma that will provide brands with a signature sensory experience.
Providing provenance
As humanisation and premiumisation of pet food gathers pace, it is imperative that the sourcing of ingredients demands an obsessive focus. With ingredients sourced from all across the globe, the challenge is to manage large and small volumes whilst maintaining the highest quality standards and delivering consistently to expectant partners.
Providing provenance remains an important differentiator for the company, which is why the way in which the food is transported is key. Sourcing food from trusted sources and transporting chilled via the human grade food chain, ensures the ingredients are kept in the finest condition before being gently cooked.
State-of-the-art kitchen
The obsession with fresh ingredients is why the company has invested in excess of £75 million (€85 / $105 million) to build a state-of-the-art ingredients kitchen that meets the demands of the pet food brands and indeed the buyers of the food themselves.
Work has now begun on the new fully automated kitchen, able to handle nearly 400 ingredients and more than 800 different formulas. The state-of-the-art plant, which anticipates a doubling of capacity, will include a new dark store, which works only with robots, and automated guided vehicles to assist moving ingredients and foods. Three software companies have been involved in automating the whole system, with a vision to exclude any human error.
Transparency and trust
As partner brands seek transparency and trust, the automated systems within the ingredients kitchen will deliver live data surrounding the sourcing of the raw materials and the human grade journey on which the ingredients embark.
To further improve the site’s green credentials, the extrusion lines are now provided with a mixing and grinding station that reintroduces, however small or large, every bit of the product back into the forming process.
For GA, creating the world’s finest pet food has always been the focus and technology undeniably plays a crucial role, but the finest fresh ingredients remain at the heart of any great recipe.
