June’s Consumer Prices Index recorded the highest ever annual inflation rate in the country.
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) revealed that British consumers are now paying 8.4% more for pet products and services than they were in 2021.
In just one month, from May to June 2022, the prices of pet products increased by 1.1%. In the first 6 months of the year, prices for the category have shown an accumulated rise of 5.4%.
The pet category is slightly below the global Consumer Prices Index (CPI), which reached a yearly growth of 9.4% in June.
Recent figures from Kantar show that British families will face a £380 (€445) increase in average annual grocery bills. Butter, milk and pet food are among the biggest rises over the past year, according to the figures.
