Industry players join sustainable packaging initiative
Pet food companies Canidae, Earth Animal, Instinct, Petcurean, and Primal Pet Foods take a “collective” step and sign the Pet Sustainability Coalition’s (PSC) pledge at Superzoo.
The program aims to increase participation from the pet industry to move toward recyclable, reusable, or compostable packaging by the year 2025.
Stephanie Volo, Chief Marketing Officer at Earth Animal said during the signature in Las Vegas that sustainable packaging is “one of the biggest and most important” problems in the industry.
“The PSC Packaging Pledge represents a powerful opportunity for us all to collaborate in significantly reducing the industry’s impact on the environment.”
On the same lines, Canidae’s Chief Operating Officer Wally Shaw added that the company aims to “create as little waste as possible and make sure we use recyclable materials.”
Commitment
Instinct CEO Neil Thompson defined the signature moment as a “huge” collective step, while Petcurean Sustainability & Community Relations Manager Christine Mallier pointed out that signing PSC’s pledge is a commitment to “pets, people and the planet.”
“There is a long way to go but we now have a commitment to get there. We are honored to be part of the group,” added Primal Pet Foods CEO Tim Simonds.
Commenting on the new signatories, PSC Executive Director Caitlyn Dudas noted that the pledge will provide a “long-term pathway to sustainable packaging including tools, a marketplace, and technical support for brands to feasibly meet their public commitment.”
