Lyka Pet Food expands manufacturing capabilities to Victoria
The Australian pet food manufacturer aims to improve its logistics strategy.
Lyka Pet Food has expanded its manufacturing capabilities by adding a new plant in Dandenong South, a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria.
The plant, which received an investment of A$16 million ($10.4M/€9.6M), is expected to improve the brand’s penetration into new national markets.
“The location of the facility improves logistics, allowing us to ship direct to courier depots and implement flexible demand planning of fulfillment volumes mirroring changes in customer demand,” says a company spokesperson.
The new facility is expected to improve customer service in the states of Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania.
100 jobs
The new opening is a strategic move to expand Lyka Pet Food’s footprint in Victoria and boost the state’s food manufacturing sector through the creation of 100 jobs by 2025.
The new facility will showcase new production lines and automated equipment to enhance efficiency and nutrient retention in the brand’s pet food.
According to the company, adding a national distribution center will quadruple product distribution volume, improve delivery time, reduce food miles and increase the supply capabilities of brick-and-mortar stores.
Plans to procure all supplies locally are also expected to aid regional partnerships to further push Victoria’s food and beverage manufacturing sector.
