Miura divests from Tiendanimal selling its stake to Emefin group

Miura Private Equity, a Spanish leading investment firm, divests its majority stake in Tiendanimal, a pet care & services retailer leader in Spain. Emefin group, based in Lima, has acquired the majority of Tiendanimal’s shareholding. Emefin is committed to the project to bring continuity and to strengthen the business.

Miura took a stake in the shareholding of Tiendanimal in 2014. The Firm became the controlling shareholder and implemented a business transformation plan that has positioned the company as one of the main groups in the omnichannel retail of pet care & services, with a large number of brick-and-mortar stores.

Emefin is the corporate office of a family business group with more than 80 years of experience in retail, manufacturing, distribution and logistics in healthcare, consumer, petcare and industry sectors. Tiendanimal will continue to strengthen its omnichannel strategy and the expansion of brick-and-mortar stores in Spain and Europe.

Omnichannel and national growth
During these five years in Miura’s portfolio, the firm has helped Tiendanimal to open stores from the initial business focused on e-commerce. Nowadays, Tiendanimal has 64 stores in Spain and one in Portugal, with a rapid pace of 15 store openings on an annual basis over the last couple of years. Furthermore, Tiendanimal has already begun its internationalization with stores in Portugal and e-commerce in Portugal, France, and Italy.

Tiendanimal has successfully developed an omnichannel business that offers any product to clients from any platform and at any time. In addition, Tiendanimal’s turnover has grown every year. In 2019 the company will close with EUR 113 million revenue. The retailer has increased the number of products offered, more than 30,000, including own-brand products and incorporating services such as the hairdressing, pet adoption and veterinarian clinic.

In addition, Tiendanimal has developed certain social-impact policies and actions based on alliances with pet shelters and environmental awareness-raising initiatives.

Juan Leach, one of the founders of Miura, states that “we are proud of our contribution to the transformation of Tiendanimal together with the company founders, Jorge Goldberg and Jose Antonio Alarcón. We are also glad to have found a new partner for Tiendanimal that is committed with the company, brings financial strength and will boost the international growth of the company.”

Rafael Martínez-Alvial, Tiendanimal’s managing director, highlights that “we are grateful to Miura and the founders for the support during the last five years. Today, Tiendanimal is a consolidated group that will continue with its growth with Emefin. Emefin’s experience in the marker and its support to our strategy and our team are essential to reach our targets.”
