AAFCO names new Executive Director

The Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) believes Austin Therrell is “an ideal fit” for the new role.

Therrell, who started his duties on September 6, brings “innovative thinking” and regulatory experience for organizational growth.

His main mission will be to promote a “safe feed supply through unified system-based regulation, feed-ingredient standards and laboratory operations”. The new director will report directly to the board of directors and work alongside the association members.

“I am excited to have the opportunity to work closer with our members, industry advisors and the board of directors to lead the association into a new chapter – especially as we focus on new and innovative ways to continue being the trusted leader that safeguards animal and human health,” claimed Therrell.

Relevant experience

AAFCO president George Ferguson highlighted that Therrell’s background was decisive in making him the ideal fit for the position.

“He brings relevant experience and a fresh perspective to AAFCO, adding greater depth to ensure compliance with state and federal laws affecting animal food,” he noted.

Austin Therrell worked for eight years in the South Carolina Department of Agriculture as the Feed Regulatory Program’s Manager and Coordinator.

He has been an active asset in AAFCO in the past as co-chairman of the Feed Ingredient Manufacturing Committee and member of the Pet Food Committee.
