Assisi Pet Care takes over natural pet food brand Burns
The firm aims to grow the brand and expand its European footprint.
Pet food manufacturer Assisi Pet Care Group announced it is acquiring UK-based pet food company Burns Pet Nutrition for an undisclosed amount.
Assisi, which was recently acquired by US private equity firm Wind Point Partners, hopes to “strengthen its offer to customers across Europe.”
Peter Mangion, Founder and CEO of Assisi Pet Care, comments that this deal signals Assisi’s commitment “to execute on our growth strategy” in the European pet care market.
Burns Pet Nutrition, headquartered in Glamorganshire, in southern Wales, was founded in 1993 by veterinarian John Burns MBE and focused on developing pet food with nutritional value.
“Assisi Pet Care is a good fit for Burns, and they will grow the Burns brand in a responsible, ethical way,” says Burns, who is retiring from the business.
Improving capacity and infrastructure
This recent move adds to Assisi’s acquisition of treat producer Maced from Poland and Pet Munchies from the UK in 2022.
After “phenomenal growth,” Assisi Pet Care announced an investment program in structural development and new production equipment. The company said it wants to ensure that the group “is well positioned to support its development plans.”
“These continued activities demonstrate Assisi’s commitment to investing in its brands, its infrastructure, and its people,” it said.
The company also owns other brands like Hollings Pet Treats, which gained national listing on the grocery channel in 2022, and dog and cat pet food brand HiLife.
