British biofuel producer forays into pet food
Ensus is to build a facility that will produce a new high-protein product aimed for the pet and aquafeed industries.
Ensus has recently announced its plans to invest £90 million ($115M/€105M) in a series of projects, including building a new animal feed facility at its Wilton International plant, located within Teesside Freeport in North East England.
The new facility will produce EnPro, a new product consisting in high-protein aimed at the UK and European aquafeed and pet food markets. The project is scheduled to be commissioned in 2025.
Ensus currently primarily caters to the farming industry and can not specify its projected capacity for pet food and aquafeed.
However, the new plant does expect to expand the current facility’s capacity, which produces 350,000 tons a year of protein-enriched distillers’ dried grains with soluble (DDGS) primarily for UK cattle and pig farmers.
Investment
The total investment for the facility is estimated to range between £60– £70 million ($77M–$90M/€70M–€81.8M).
Ensus received the investment from its parent company, German biofuel manufacturer CropEnergies.
The EnPro brand aligns with CropEnergies’ dedication to a circular economy, says CEO and CFO Stephan Meeder. He adds that they plan to “utilize all their raw materials and refine them into products which benefit the markets in which they operate.”
