Honda launches accessories to improve dog safety in cars
The Japanese automotive giant is offering dog guards, rubber mats and boot mats for some of its cars sold in the UK.
On April 1st Honda announced the launch of a Dog Co-Pilot Front Seat, which would be joined later in the year by variants for cats, hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits and fish. “A multi-story seat for gerbils will follow in spring 2023,” the company stated.
This was actually part of an April Fools’ Day joke, but now the automotive company is taking a real step and has launched a new range of pet-friendly accessories.
“It was the success of the April Fools’ Day campaign that ultimately prompted us to develop this product pack – because it became so clear that customers wanted something special for their four-legged friend,” claimed Rebecca Adamson, Head of Automobile at Honda UK.
A complete set
The pack – consisting of a rear seat fence, rubber floor mats, a trunk mat, a foldable cargo mat and a paintwork-protecting trunk step protector – is available for different car models. These include the Honda Civic, Jazz Hybrid, HR-V Hybrid, Civic Hybrid and CR-V Hybrid.
The news has been welcomed by the British Automobile Association (AA), which stressed the importance of keeping pets safe whilst driving to avoid any dangerous activity that could distract the driver and potentially cause an accident.
“If you do have an accident, a pet running loose in the car is more likely to be badly injured, as well as being a danger to everyone else in the car,” warned Jack Cousen, AA’s Head of Road Policy.
