Mars Petcare to remove plastic from its pet food multipacks
Mars Petcare UK is replacing its shrink-film with cardboard for its multipack pet food range.
This will be the case for the brands Pedigree, Whiskas, Chappie and Kitekat.
The company reports that this will remove 180 tonnes of plastic every year. With the new packaging made from cardboard, it’s better recyclable and will help in meeting its goal of 100% recyclable packaging by 2025.
Kim Smet, interim general manager, Mars Petcare, said: “We know that over the past year alone the UK’s pet population has sky-rocketed to an all-time high, tipping 20m dogs and cats – nearly a third of the size of the UK human population – so as an industry our sustainability efforts must reflect this and improve, at speed, to create the world we want tomorrow.”
