Online retailer Zooplus expects € 2.14 billion in sales for 2021

After a strong first quarter, the company is on track to hit its projected targets for 2021.

The online-only company keeps benefiting from the rise in pet ownership during COVID, as evidenced in the quarterly statement:

  • Group sales for the first three months of 2021 increased by 16% to € 508.6 million (compared to € 439.9 in Q1 2020).
  • The revenue retention rate of existing customers stood at 97% at the end of Q1 2021, and the number of active repeat customers increased by 15% to € 5.3 million (Q1 2020: € 4.6 million).
  • Gross profit stood at € 156.2 million, yielding a gross margin of 30.7% (Q1 2020: EUR 129.3 m; 29.4%).
  • Operating profitability (EBITDA) amounted to € 24.5 million, yielding an EBITDA margin of 4.8% (Q1 2020: € 8.1 million; 1.8%).
  • Free cash flow stood at € 48.1 million at the end of the first quarter of 2021 (Q1 2020: € 40.4 million).
