These are the most popular dog breeds of 2024 in the US

For the third consecutive year since 2022, the French bulldog holds the top spot.
The American Kennel Club (AKC), the US registry dedicated to promoting and regulating purebred dogs, has revealed its rankings for the most popular dog breeds in the country for 2024.
The French bulldog has maintained the top spot for the third consecutive year as the breed continues to captivate American dog owners.
This breed’s rise to the top of the rankings is because it has become a favorite for city dwellers and the younger generation in recent years. This is partly due to their size and minimal grooming needs.
Next in the list
While the French bulldog holds steady at number 1, the Labrador retriever, golden retriever, German shepherd and poodle make up the top 5, respectively.
Some shifts have occurred, though, with beagles moving up to number 7 while rottweilers and bulldogs dropped a spot to numbers 8 and 9.
The most notable trend in the AKC’s 2024 list is significant jumps for breeds like the Kerry blue terrier and the Bracco Italiano, which each climbed 25 and 20 spots.
On the other hand, breeds like the saluki and black and tan coonhound experienced declines.
The least popular breeds
The AKC also unveiled the least popular breeds of the year. The Danish-Swedish farmdog, which only made its debut last year as the 202nd registered breed, claimed the bottom spot.
Other breeds that ranked near the bottom include the Kerry blue terrier, American foxhound, sloughi and American English coonhound, all of which remain niche breeds with smaller followings.
